UK’s most popular new car colour: Grey

A selection of colours

Wondering which paint colour to choose for your new car? According to Motoring Research, monochrome is rife on UK roads, with grey coming in top for most popular new car colour in 2022.

One of Britain’s favourite new car colours will surprise you though, having seen a 74.2% uplift in sales since 2021. Think you can guess it?

Paint the town grey

For the fifth year in a row, grey takes the title of ‘most popular new car colour’. 2022 saw 415,199 new grey cars sold, making up 25.7% of the total new cars sold last year.

Other monochrome colours also took precedence in new vehicle sales, with black paint claiming 20.1% of the share and white 16.7%.

This means more than 6 in 10 new cars sold in 2022 were either grey, black, or white.

Make way for green

Of the top 10 favourite car colours for 2022, the most surprising ranking is green, coming in seventh place and claiming 1.9% of the market share.

Interestingly, silver car paint has taken a dive in popularity. 2022 reflects its lowest market share in two decades; at just 6.1%.
