Surrey Police stop BMW driver watching a movie on the M25

@SurreyRoadCops quipped that the dangerous driver had been watching Dumb and Dumber

Owners of BMWs often get a bad rap for their driving. Disliked on the roads, they’re frequently stereotyped as being inconsiderate lane hoggers, who drive too fast, too furiously and overall, dangerously. While we don’t usually condone stereotypes, sometimes they’re quite fitting…

A BMW driver in Surrey has been caught watching a movie, while cruising on the M25 motorway on 10th March.

‘Engrossed’

The motorist was caught by a uniformed police officer on a bike, but was so absorbed in the film that they didn’t even notice they were being watched for more than two miles.

They were then pulled over between junctions eight and nine and issued with points and a fine.

The Twitter account for Surrey Police – @SurreyRoadCops –tweeted on Saturday night: “#M25 J9-8. The vehicle stopped as the driver had a film playing on screen. They were so engrossed they didn’t see the marked police bike next to them for over 2 miles! #points #fines.”

Driving while using a mobile device carries an immediate penalty of a £200 fine and six points. However, the offence can carry a maximum fine of up to £1,000 and the driver could also be disqualified from driving.

Dumb and Dumber

Twitter users were unsurprisingly shocked at the foolishness of the motorist, with @robbieD_78, responding: “Quite incredible levels of stupidity!… the penalty should be a heavy one!…but I doubt it will be…”

One follower asked what they may have been watching while travelling at speed on the London Orbital Motorway, with another Twitter user responding, “Crash” and the official police account quipping: “Dumb and Dumber”.

The M25 stretches 117 miles and is famous for its gridlocked driving conditions. With drivers like this on the highway, it’s easy to understand why there are so many tailbacks and accidents.

Previously captured offences on the road include a man eating noodles with chopsticks and another motorist driving without a front wheel.
